ARCHILET

Description

The aim of this project is to create an online database of letters, giving particular attention to Italian literature in 16th and 17th centuries and to its links to other European literatures and cultures. The archive merely registers senders, recipients, date, place of the sender(s) and of the recipient(s), names quoted in the letter, things of relevance, the incipit and the source (i.e. the place where the letter is now kept or the reference edition, if published). The ARCHILET approach privileges the relational aspect of culture and of epistolary communication, towards the reconstruction of an overall cultural network. The objective is to place authors and texts into a concrete context and to explain literary choices and cultural relationships on a documentary basis, in order to uncover new perspectives in early modern history and the history of literature, as well as in the history of ideas, religious thought and the history of art.
